SOCIO ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

ENERGY Joburg has committed to several socio-economic development initiatives. One of these initiatives is to provide socio economic development support to the local communities that are within a 50km radius of each project site and as these communities are large and involve a great number of people, the focus of the resources and efforts are on improving education facilities that serve the local community.

A needs assessment study was conducted to identify the needy schools which are close to the sites. Turffontein Primary School is one of the schools which was chosen in the area around Robinson Deep. The education department was notified that ENERGY Joburg will be sponsoring the schools. During the needs assessment survey, it was noted that the school furniture was not in a good condition as the children at the school were using broken chairs and sharing desks often with four or five children to a desk or even working without any desks. The benefits of this program are to provide suitable resources so the children can focus on their studies and achieve better grades.
